The Hinge meets every Wednesday night at kicks off at 7pm. Students participate in various activities year ‘round. Summer is full of great activities for students, like Sunday Night Hang Out, The Desperation Conference, and other events.
The Hinge is the student ministry at Manhattan First for all 6th-12th graders. It is led by Pastor Megan Allen, along with her team of leaders. The Hinge got its name from the verse in Matthew 22 when a man asks Jesus,
“Teacher, which command in God’s Law is the most important?” Jesus said, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence.’ This is the most important, the first on any list. But there is a second to set alongside it: ‘Love others as well as you love yourself.’ These two commands are pegs; everything in God’s Law and the Prophets hangs from them.”
We believe that our lives “hinge” on loving God and loving people. Students are encouraged to put God first in their lives, and to love those around them passionately and selflessly. As one of our students put it: “we don’t just learn about God; we experience Him.”
We have several committed leaders that play a vital role at The Hinge. They embrace students where they are at, and call out the God given gifts in them. They also tremendously help Pastor Megan as she follows where the Lord is leading. The Hinge would not be what it is without these adults who are so compassionate for students and have such a willing heart to serve and see God made first in their lives.
Sunday Night Hang Out
During the summer, The Hinge gets together every Sunday night for a different activity. This gives our students a great opportunity to really get to know each other and connect with our leaders in a comfortable atmosphere. We grill hot dogs, play ultimate frisbee, feed ducks and enjoy many other fun activities.
The Desperation Conference
Desperation was birthed for one purpose: to help sculpt a generation that desires to live a life in desperate pursuit of God. We believe that if we unite and pray then God will bring change to our generation as local churches gradually and intentionally make disciples of Jesus. Each year, thousands of students from across the world gather together for a weekend devoted to worship, prayer and going deep with God. Every year we challenge each student to take what we call THE VOW and to live out that Vow. Our hope is that, by encouraging students to develop some of these core Christian principles, they will grow in their walk with God. Desperation calls young people to live in desperate pursuit of God.
Meet the Leaders
Pastor Megan could not do her job well without these leaders. Because of their dedication, The Hinge has not only grown in number but in depth. With a vast amount of life experiences, these leaders can not only relate to our students but encourage them to seek the Lord. Pastor Megan believes in not just her students but wholeheartedly believes in these leaders!
